A couple of days into ‘07 and I’m sick with a cold. Taking my chance I’ve taken a look back at 2006…
The Best Films
- Munich
- Cars
- Brick
- Casino Royale
- Hustle & Flow
The OK Films
- Jarhead
- V for Vendetta
- MI: III
- The Break-up
- Superman Returns
- POTC2
- Monster House
- The Devil Wears Prada
- World Trade Center
- Inside Man
- Charlotte’s Web
- Eragon
- Happy Feet
- The Last Holiday
- Just Like Heaven
The downright lousy films
- Ice Age 2: The Meltdown
- The Da Vinci Code
- X-Men III: The Last Stand
- Over the Hedge
- Yours, Mine & Ours
- She’s the Man
The Best things in 2006
- Apple’s new intel-based Macbooks
- Nintendo Wii – so what if it ain’t as grunty in the graphics department – it’s damn fun to play!! And who would’ve thought my parents would be playing a console!
- The rise of Youtube and Digg – kept me entertained and informed throughout the year
- King Kong winning the best VFX oscar – Weta’s 4th, my 1st
- The Commonwealth Games – only because Fox 8 put on The Simpsons 24/7
- The World Baseball Classic – the Aussies crashed out (expectedly) and so did the US dream team!
- The Maroons come from behind victory to win the State of Origin for the first time in three years
- The Kangaroos extra-time win in the Tri-Nations final
- Australia regaining the Ashes. Sure the 3rd test clinched it, but it was practically in our grasp after that amazing 5th day win in Adelaide
- My grandma’s 90th birthday and family reunion
Worst Moments
- Grey’s Anatomy
- Big Brother – need I say more?
- Channel 10’s NYE coverage (just sneaks in)
- Channel 9 dusting off Bert Newton and hoisting him back on air
- The Commonwealth games – who cares anymore?
- Barry Bonds passing Babe Ruth’s 714 home run mark – cheat! How this guy gets a pass from bay area fans and A-Rod gets jeered is beyond me
- The Cardinals winning the World Series – not that I’m a Tiger’s fan; I just hate the Cardinals
- Brokeback Mountain winning the oscar for Best Score. WTF?!? That repetitive guitar riff…?
- watching Australia score a world record 434 runs in a one-day international against South Africa at Wanderers in Johannesburg. How’s that disappointing? Staying up ‘til 3.30am to watch South Africa score 435 with one ball to go!
- World Cup 2006. The Socceroos played their hearts out and made the 2nd round only to fall to some dodgy theatrics from those Italian thespians. That, and the fact that I worked all the way through it!
- Getting a job at ILM on POTC3 only to fall 2 years short of necessary work experience for the e-3 visa!
